What’s this about the same apartment being listed at different prices in the New York Times?
I wrote an article about real estate pricing chaos for Inman News last week that’s gotten some play.
Curbed, among others, was nice enough to link to it.
To read the whole thing you have to hit the Inman site, which requires registration, but here’s an excerpt:
“When FSBO [Owner who selling by herself; lit. stands for 'For Sale By Owner'] authorized us all to find buyers, she didn’t declare exclusivity of channels, and she didn’t control pricing.
I put her apartment on craigslist at $565K. I (unsurprisingly) got no takers.
But then I found it on nytimes.com, three separate times . . . the worst part was, they were on at three different prices. If memory serves, you could find the apartment listed at $550K, $560K, and I think $575K (when I went to check a minute ago, the middle agent had raised his price to $575K).
Every listing used the same photos of course, so buyers must be
wondering what the hell is going on . . . “
